• Partners worked out examples to help students
• Partners discussed how to present the students work

On Sunday the Estonian partner offered an excursion to the city of Tartu. The guide informed us about the history of Estonia and Tartu. We visited Tartu University the most important intellectual centre in Estonia, the KGB and the Toy Museums.

The partners were welcomed officially by Ilmatsalu Basic School on Monday morning. The students performed traditional Estonian songs, dances and music.

The teachers met the school staff, attended some lessons, were shown the school building and the classrooms and got an overview of the school. Afterwards we enjoyed a good meal in the school canteen. In the afternoon we were invited to a meeting with Esta Tamm, the County Governor, Eda Tagamets, the main specialist of foreign relations and Rein Kokk, Tähtvere Municipal Mayor at Tartu County Government, Anneli Võsaste, Manager of Educational and Culture department. Then Eda Tagamets gave us basic information about Tartu County and the Education System in Estonia.

Hard project work on Tuesday morning was followed by a visit to the Green Class and the teacher gave us a typical outdoor lesson. We also took part in practical work together with students of the host school.

On Wednesday we were acquainted with different ways of learning a profession and how students are being prepared for work life in Tartu Vocational Education Centre.

After project work on Thursday morning, partners met with the local press Tartu Postimees and Tähtvere municipal press and gave an interview about the project in general and the Teachers’ Meeting in Estonia. Project Meeting - Tartu, Estonia November 2008

Welcome to Estonia!!!

The Estonians are a Finnic people closely related to the Finns, with the Estonian language sharing many similarities to Finnish.
Estonia is divided into fifteen counties.

The capital and largest city is Tallinn.

Estonia was a member of the European Union since 1 May 2004. With only 1.4 million inhabitants, it comprises one of the smallest populations of the European Union countries.

Welcome to Tartu!!! - City of good thoughts

Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia with a population of 100,000 inhabitants, one fifth of whom are students. In contrast to Estonia's political and financial capital Tallinn, Tartu is often considered the intellectual and cultural hub, especially since it is home to Estonia's oldest and most renowned university.

Tartu is proud of its university founded in 1632. Most of the distinguished scientists, writers and statesmen have studied at the University of Tartu.

Tartu is situated 186 km southeast of Tallinn, the city is the centre of southern Estonia. The Emajõgi River, which connects the two largest lakes of Estonia, crosses Tartu.

In Tartu the most important historical monuments are its medieval churches - St. John's Church and the Dome Church.

We are eager to visit Tartu and to learn about its culture.

Students and teachers stayed in GIP Hotel and the Portuguese students lived with the Austrian host families.

Since the last meeting all the teams had worked on the activities decided in the Project Meeting in Nuremberg in last November. A number of classes in each school filled in questionnaires about their interests and attitudes at school and in their spare time, as well as their talents and abilities. This data was collected, analysed, compared and processed in graphic programmes by students and teachers. Afterwards they prepared presentations about their own countries and also their educational systems.

One of the aims of the week was to have the opportunity to see a lot of the landscape, to get in contact with the culture and traditions of the region which had to cope with the situation of living at the edge of the Western Europe very close to the iron curtain.

Another very important aim was the interaction of the students and teachers from the different countries to train and improve their social and language skills.
The invitation of the local community for dinner was another opportunity for communication and social contacts.

Students' Exchange - Grosspetersdorf April 2008

Students' Exchange Grosspetersdorf - Austria

April 2008

The host school

Hauptschule Grosspetersdorf

The first Students’ Exchange of the Comenius Project Different Bridges from School to Professions will take place in Grosspetersdorf, Austria from 13 to 19 April 2008.

Großpetersdorf is an important economic center, an industrial town, and a traffic junction with about 4500 inhabitants, situated in Burgenland region.

Burgenland is the easternmost and least populous state or Land of Austria. It consists of two Statutarstädte (towns with a charter) and seven districts with in total 171 municipalities. It is 166 km long from north to south but much narrower from west to east (only 5 km wide at Sieggraben).

Burgenland is the 7th largest of Austria's 9 provinces (Bundesländer), at 3,966 km². The highest point in the province is Geschriebenstein, at 884 metres; the lowest point is 114 meters, near Apetlon.

Burgenland has a very long border: to the west it borders the Austrian provinces of Niederösterreich and Steiermark. To the northeast it borders Slovakia, Hungary to the east and Slovenia to the farthest south.

Burgenland and Hungary share the Neusiedler See, known for its reed, shallowness as well as the mild climate throughout the year. The Neusiedler See is Austria's largest lake serving as a large tourist attraction bringing ornithologists, sailors and wind/kite surfers into the region north of the lake.
